Aino Elina, a newcomer on the Edinburgh indie electro pop scene. Following her singles Vankina and Rukous this singer-songwriter, originally from Lapland, Finland, is releasing today her debut EP Unissa.
Aino Elina has been working on this EP with two well-known producers, Dave Lloyd from Lost Oscillation and David Whitmey. In Aino Elina’s songs soft vocals flirt with hip-hop and drum n’ bass influenced beats where harp, vibraphone and strings lighten up the mood. Everything is wrapped up in beautifully dissonant, hazy harmonies.
Aino Elina writes mostly in Finnish. “It’s not important to understand the literal meaning of the words in music, it’s more important to feel the music – the emotion and the beat.” Songs in Finnish have been received well in the UK and singing in Aino Elina’s first language was a particular recommendation from Whitmey.
The EP will be released today with a live launch party at Sneaky Pete’s, Edinburgh. Tonight will bring the audience a dreamy combination of ethereal vocals, live strings (Isla Pitkethly on cello and Alice Thorsell on violin) and electronic beats (John Alexander on drums).
Instead of printing plastic CDs, Aino Elina will be selling 100% organic cotton, fairwear, climate neutral t-shirts at the launch with a download code for the digital album.
